I finally checked out the Flagship Brewery Company the other day with my girlfriend. It’s been on my list of places to try since it opened last year. But time flies, and so we only recently got around to Staten Island’s first microbrewery in Tompkinsville.
The founders for Flagship are all from the West Brighton neighborhood of Staten Island with years of experience brewing beer. And now they’ve brought their expertise back home to Staten Island.
Best of all, the beer is very good – I sampled them all. Now they just need to start brewing an IPA, and I’ll be set.
Tompkinsville, of course, is a North Shore neighborhood in Staten Island. What you might not realize is that many people involved see many positive changes to come for the neighborhood. Flagship is in a warehouse at 40 Minthorne Street, right across the street from the Tompkinsville train station and only a short 10-minute walk from the ferry terminal. A DaddyO’s BBQ is slated to open in the warehouse within the next few months, and the developer has said that he wants to attract artists and small specialty retail shops.
The developer is even making comparisons to the transformation of Williamsburg in Brooklyn. So soon you might have to dodge hipsters walking down Minthorne.
The North Shore revitalization has already been a boon to Staten Island real estate prices, and if you are buying a home or selling a home, the best is yet to come.
