When you’re looking for the perfect home, it’s not impossible to find everything you want in one place. If furry four-legged friends are part of your family, Staten Island is a great place to be because most of the homes have a front or backyard. For everyone else, there is the great outdoors!

My wife and I currently have two dogs and one cat. We recently purchased a home in Travis and we have plenty of space for them (especially the cat who finds a universe of fun inside an old shoebox) but we still like to take our canine family members outside to blow off some steam.

Here are my top four favorite dog parks in Staten Island.

4. Willowbrook Park

Since Willowbrook Park is just eight minutes from our home in Travis, this has a chance to become our go-to. I like that it has an off-leash dog area. The archery range is available for dogs from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. every day, which is ridiculous because it’s not like archers are there the rest of the day. You can also walk around the five-acre lake in one of the many trails there are to explore.

3. Silver Lake Park

This majestic park with 209 acres has a lot to see. It has the largest dog run in Staten Island. It’s so massive that the view begs you to throw a ball or a frisbee for as far as the eye can see. Your dogs will go nuts!

Silver Lake Park has a section for both small and big dogs. My dogs are medium to small but Reg likes to hang out with the big guys most of the time. It’s a great place when your dogs are especially tireless.

2. Clove Lakes Park

With three-miles of hiking trails, this park almost guarantees that your pup will be out for the rest of the day after your jaunt. The trails will take you across forests, lakes, and a gorgeous tulip tree that’s at least 300 years old!

1. Wolfe’s Pond Park

This park in the south shore has a dog run where dogs can be off-leash. Considering that the park offers an ocean view, it’s probably my favorite dog park in Staten Island. We’ve been going to this park for years.

I like that there are trails with various levels of difficulty. Buddy prefers the easy path (he’s a small Shih Tzu with tons of attitude, learn more about him here), and Reg is indifferent. Now you might wonder, how do I know that? A friend of mine insists that dogs understand Spanish. Nevermind that she owns a cat, ever since I started practicing Spanish on Duolingo, you might just say I’m a dog whisperer of sorts!

Where’s your favorite dog park? If you frequent any of these, maybe we’ll run into each other.
